Traffic Violations in New York

New Tork traffic Tickets

At the law office of New York traffic ticket lawyer, Kenneth S. Feraru, we know that traffic violations can differ from Queens, Nassau and Suffolk County. The disposition of tickets for New York State traffic violations is determined in large part by the area of the state where the violation occurred, whether it is a speeding ticket in New York or other violation. Tickets for noncriminal offenses in New York City, Buffalo, Rochester, or parts of Suffolk County are handled by the Department of Motor Vehicles Traffic Violations Bureau (TVB). Cases are heard by a DMV administrative law judge who determines guilt or innocence and sets fines.

In other parts of the state, local courts oversee noncriminal traffic charges. These municipal courts also handle all criminal traffic offenses, such as reckless driving or DWI, in all parts of the state.

New York Traffic Ticket Defense

Drivers who receive a TVB ticket (tickets that display "Traffic Violations Bureau" on the bottom) can enter a plea, schedule a hearing and pay fines online at www.nysdmv.com/PleadandPay/default.html. There is no additional charge for using the online service, and the fine is the same as if paid by mail or in-person at a DMV office. Drivers using the online service will need:

  • The traffic ticket number
  • The last four digits of the driver's Social Security number
  • A client ID number from a NY driver's license, learner's permit, non-driver photo ID card or full name, address, and gender
  • A valid e-mail address in order to receive an electronic confirmation
  • An accepted credit or debit card if paying a fine

New York City parking tickets can also be paid or disputed online at the following Website: http://nycserv.nyc.gov/NYCServWeb/NYCSERVMain.

It's vitally important that you not ignore a traffic summons. Even if you believe you're not guilty, you must respond in a timely manner. Otherwise you risk losing your license and/or paying exorbitant penalties.

Kenneth S. Feraru has successfully represented many clients against New York speeding tickets. If you need help defending yourself against a traffic charge in Nassau County, call us at (516) 535-3333 or complete our quick contact web form.
